Rules and reference

Everything under Character Options, Compendium and Reference in the sidebar is open to everyone, with or without an account.

Browsing

Every list (races, classes, subclasses, backgrounds, feats, traits, languages, proficiencies, spells, monsters, equipment, magic items, conditions, the glossary and deities) works the same way:

  • Ruleset: show one edition, or all of them. Signed in, the list opens in your preferred ruleset.
  • Search narrows the list by name.
  • Filters depend on the list: spell level and school, monster challenge rating, item rarity, and so on.
  • Sort by any column, and page through long lists.

An entry’s page shows its full text. Wherever a rule mentions a condition, it links to its definition.

Signed out, you see official content only. Signed in, you also see homebrew that its author shared with you (see Homebrew).

Press Ctrl K (or choose Search at the top of the sidebar) to search everything at once. Signed in, the results also include your own characters, worlds and campaigns, and what you can see of other people’s.

Wiki

Every page has a readable address, such as /wiki/spell/fireball. In any text field that takes markdown you can link to another page with double brackets, e.g. [[Npc:The Bartender]]. The page you link to lists the link under Mentioned in.

Compare

Edition Compare puts the same race, class, spell or other entry from two editions side by side and marks what changed.

Rulesets

A ruleset is one edition or sourcebook, such as the 2014 or the 2024 System Reference Document. Every entry belongs to one. The Rulesets page lists them with their licence; Licences shows the attribution each source requires. Damage Types is the shared list every ruleset uses.
